Recently there have been many imported pool tables come to market with qualities matching a good deal of the US makers which was not a real problem for US pool table companies, all they had to do was to say that because these tables were from China they were inferior, stand up straight and test you on your support of your country resulting in a purchase of their fine, expensive pool tables.

Much has changed, in fact the Chinese have really come a long way in refining their pool tables and keeping costs down in the process which has American pool table companies in what we believe to be a tight squeeze. We now support many of the newer chinese brands because they fit the consumers budget and playing needs. Now we ask when confronted by the supporter of the US brands, why is the pool table the only thing in the household that by no means is allowed to be imported? It's because it's the sales game now, the excuses of the US salesperson in the past don't hold water any longer because of increased quality if the imports. The funny thing is, we used to knock the imports because we had to work on them, it only takes a few years for things to change dramatically, now most installers don't have problems selling or even servicing the imports due to their quality advances. Couple that with a fair asking price and the consumer now has more control over their investment.

We don't think the consumer is dumb, and with a recent move of Olhausen Billiards, a highly respected US manufacturer of good quality we might add, from California to Tennessee for decreased labor costs and decreased shipping costs to distributors on the east coast to keep costs down, well we don't think they packed up and moved their entire company to Tennessee for the whiskey, we believe the consumers are choosing the economical imported pool table over the higher priced US pool table brands.

What all of this really means is that for over 90% of you, when it comes to budget and use of the pool table, listen to logic. Why are you buying the table? Why do you need to spend more? We can all agree that advertising is a great tool for business but McDonalds is a very agressive advertiser and a well known brand name but is McDonalds really the best lunch coice for our health just because we see the golden arches on TV or hear about them on the radio? No, not by any means, they advertise so much just so they can stay at the top of the game, moms cooking was better then good old Micky Dees. Take a look around at the customers next time you're in one, it may even open your eyes to marketing methods of pool tables and brand names or for that matter anything you choose to buy. Anymore pool tables are very alike except the price and service you can expect from the company selling it to you.
